Nokia is ready to launch 4G internet connection to the moon: all the details
Nokia wants to bring 4G internet to the moon later this year, and the company has already laid the groundwork for this to happen. Nokia is said to be using SpaceX rockets as a carrier rocket for networking equipment in the coming months, Luis Maestro Ruiz De Temino said in a CNBC report.
Temino had shared details of the launch project with the media at Mobile World Congress 2023 in Barcelona earlier this month.
He claims the network is powered by a base station with an antenna stored on the Nova-C lander designed by Intuitive Machines, a US space company. The report mentions that 4G LTE connectivity will be provided between the lander and the launch vehicle’s Rover. Nokia assures that the technology can handle the extreme conditions of space.
The company aims to demonstrate that network connections are usable for space missions in the future. It believes that the 4G network will allow astronauts to talk to each other and, if necessary, even control the rover remotely. They can also share real-time video footage and other data back to the control center.
Temino also explains that the SpaceX rocket is not responsible for taking the lander to the lunar surface, and the company will install the propulsion system to carry out the final landing. Space communication has become an active topic in the industry, but the use of LTE networks on the moon is another milestone for the space fraternity along with the technology circle, whenever it happens.
